MISSION STATEMENT:

Quilts for Kids is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming fabrics into patchwork quilts to comfort children facing serious illness, trauma, abuse and natural disasters.

A Letter from the Founder

It seems like only yesterday that I discovered a wealth of discontinued fabric samples from a design center in Philadelphia, being sent to a landfill. It bothered me that they were tossing away usable fabric. so I decided to start this charity, Quilts for Kids.

In those days, it never occurred to me that we would be an international organization today. I was only looking to save some fabric from landfills. I was assured by friends that this was a dumb idea and no one would make quilts for some stranger’s child let alone do it free! Well, 23 years later we have saved MILLIONS of pounds of fabric samples from landfills and in the process, comforted hundreds of thousands of children in need, globally, with quilts and other items.

It is YOU, our wonderful volunteer quilters, who have proved those naysayers wrong, YOU have given from your hearts and helped to turn tears into smiles for hundreds of thousands of children that you never even knew existed. Our goal continues to be donating over 30,000 quilts yearly and supplying children in need with other much-needed items. With the support of volunteers through our chapters, we can say we have touched the lives of tens of thousands of children yearly. Thank you for always coming to fulfill the needs of the children we seek to comfort. Your quilts make a difference in their lives.

A turning point for QFK came in 2007. Manufacturers took their business offshore. Domestic cottons were no more. Those wonderful 18-wheelers loaded with donated fabric were not coming our way any longer. We needed to find funding to purchase fabric. The fabric companies that had always supported us gave us reduced prices and discontinued samples to enable us to continue comforting children in need. Newer fabric companies joined them as well. We are grateful to all of them and proud to continue bringing comfort to children in need, worldwide.

There are many ways to support our cause. You can purchase fabric at our QFK shop or adopt a box of quilts going to a children's hospital. If the company you work for would like to raise funds to create quilts for your community, we can help.

Critical in this process is YOU, our volunteers, not only our quilters, but all of you who donate money during our Annual Appeal each Fall and throughout the year.

Every year here is special and we are thankful to our PARTNERS, who not only donate fabric and batting, but also offer exclusively designed fabrics to benefit QFK.
