As the holidays approach, we all get very busy. However, this time of year the weather grows cold in much of our country, so the need for a warm quilt grows so much greater. Our quilters and donors show the holiday spirit of giving throughout the year. As our gift to them, we share these heartfelt letters of gratitude. We hope it also inspires you to remember "our" kids as you share the holiday season with your own loved ones.

We received the following e-mail from Crystal, the mother of Travis, a young boy diagnosed with leukemia early last year. "Attached is a picture of Travis enjoying his Quilt. Again I want to thank you so very much. He just loves driving his matchbox cars on the quilt. He plays with it every single day and he even takes it to Pittsburgh with us when he gets chemo. which he has to do tomorrow morning. Thank you so much, you all have really brightened my son's life." For more information on Travis's condition, a photo collage, and some very inspiring and heart-warming writings, please visit his webpage. |

"Seeing her little face stick-out from a pretty lavender quilt made her seem less ill and took our minds off the heart-wrenching situation – if even for a moment...." |
Also in the electronic mailbox we received this gracious thank you from Mrs. Wright, whose sick niece received a Quilts for Kids quilt while in the hospital: "Thank you, Quilts for Kids, for all you do! My brother’s baby was recently hospitalized and diagnosed with several severe medical problems which she will be fighting for years…if not the rest of her life. I cannot tell you how much it brightened our day to see her covered with the beautiful baby quilt which was gifted to her while in the hospital. It was a relief to see her adorned with something that wasn’t a medical device, tube, or wire; seeing her little face stick-out from a pretty lavender quilt made her seem less ill and took our minds off the heart-wrenching situation – if even for a moment. I know that as she grows older, this will be one of the few things which will follow her through the years, which she’ll cherish and keep – and it’s all thanks to you and the hardworking quilters and donors who make it all possible!" Mrs. Wright also took time to directly thank at least one of our generous donors and supporters, Kravet Fabric House. In that note which was forwarded to us, she added the following... "The Quiltsforkids.org website lists Kravet as being a donator of supplies and/or services to their cause. As such, I just wanted to send a tremendous THANK YOU to you for your contribution.... Our hearts were very touched, and not only did it affect us, but also her brother and sister - who were a little anxious about even approaching her because of her conditions; they wanted to touch the beautiful quilt which lay over her, so my niece received a little bit of therapeutic touch as a result!" |

Tamara Bailey is the Manager of the Clear Lake Church Emergency Shelter in Webster, TX, one of many shelters where Hurricane Katrina victims were housed. Evacuees at this shelter were provided with Q4K quilts through the tireless efforts of Tracy Cannon of the League City, TX, chapter. Tamara shares her thanks and a tear-jerking story of one young quilt recipient: "I can not say thank you enough for the wonderful children’s quilts that your organization made for the children that stayed in our emergency shelter after Katrina. They were absolutely thrilled to receive them. One little three year old boy told us how he used to have some toys and a blanket at his house, but they “drownded”, and so did his mommy’s car. He told us he wanted a job so he could buy his mom another car and he wanted another blanket and toys. We almost cried as we handed him his specially quilted blanket. He told us he didn’t have any money yet, so he couldn’t have it. We explained it was free—a gift. He could hardly believe it. The sad eyes turned joyful in a blink. He is the first picture in the list." |
