A New Chapter…in Memory of a Friend

The fact that she had never quilted before didn’t stop Sharon Hicks from forming a QFK chapter in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  After a dear friend died of lung cancer, Sharon recalled seeing a beautiful hand-made quilt on her hospital bed.  To honor her friend’s legacy and her strong faith, Sharon decided to find a way to comfort sick children by donating quilts to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center’s Children’s Hospital through the Children’s Miracle Network.

She gathered together a host of volunteers and hopes to deliver fifty quilts initially, with more to follow.

“We have high standards,” she said. “We have to wash all the quilts before they are delivered. They have to be put in plastic bags. It’s just a big effort, and it takes someone who has a big heart and puts a lot of love in it.”
