Kentucky Quilters Make the News

Posted by pam on June 18th, 2013

Rosemary Campbell, Chapter Leader in Winchester, KY, tells us that Ian Preston, a reporter from ABC 36 News in Lexington, spent some time talking with them and filming them at work.  The result was a brief segment on the station’s 6:30 and 11:00 news

Rosemary says, "There were a few errors (e.g. they mixed up our names) and I wish there had been time in the short clip for them to emphasize that our group consists of people from all over central Kentucky, but overall it was a nice report on what we do.  Hopefully it will drum up some more support for the cause."

Thanks responding to the need for quilts to go to Oklahoma following the deadly tornadoes!  We shipped out over 1500.

Now, we've gotten word that those families have been inundated with all kinds of help from compassionate people all over the country, so we are no longer shipping quilts to that area.

However, a call came in today from one of our chapters in Colorado requesting quilts for victims of the wildfires, so getting quilts out to those children is our next goal.  If you would like to help with quilts or donations for shipping costs, please give us a call at 215-295-5484.

Quilt, Comfort and Repeat

Posted by pam on June 7th, 2013

pink quiltNext Door, a California domestic violence center, is one of the regular recipients of quilts from QFK's Silicon Valley chapter, including this bright "sofa quilt" made by Redwood City Girls Scouts.

The girls, who are ten and eleven years old, completed the quilt as a troop project and asked Chapter Leader, Bonnie Stearns, if they could add it to the donations this month.

She accepted with alacrity and notes that it really brightens up the living room and will be perfect for tv-watching on cool evenings.

ok quiltsQFK Staff members packed up 1900 quilts on Tuesday and Wednesday, most of which were express shipped to comfort children impacted by Monday's horrific tornado.

Our thoughts are with all the families who are suffering.
