And the Winner Is....

Mary Jane and Donna

A few months ago we told you about the beautiful patriotic quilt made by the members of the Coker Creek, TN, chapter for a fund-raiser.

Chapter Leader, Donna Powers, is pleased to announce that the winner of this masterpiece is Mary Jane Reece.

Each square was made by a member of the chapter, and then the quilt was assembled by Josie Mott, quilted by Anita McClure and bound by Eda Ciamania.

All proceeds will be used to purchase fabric, batting and supplies for the chapter, who will be donating 45 to 50 quilts later this month to Children's Hospital in Knoxville.

Volunteers Add Warmth to Florida

Posted by pam on February 21st, 2014

lehigh Feb...not more sunshine, but the warmth of love and compassion for seriously ill children.  Lehigh Acres, FL, Chapter meets regularly for workshops, including Shelly Albert's group from River Hall.

For Shelly, it's personal.  Years ago in Pennsylvania, her son was born prematurely, and she will never forget the kindness shown by volunteers who kept him cozy with volunteer-made blankets and pajamas.

Now she's giving back and contributing quilts to Golisano Children's Hospital in south Ft. Myers, the Hope Hospice, ACT shelter and anywhere else hand-made comfort is needed.

There Be Dragons Here!

Posted by pam on January 31st, 2014

This beautifully crafted dragon quilt turned out to be a little too large for a "comfort quilt," but we knew we were saving it for someone special.

It has now found its place with a seven-year-old boy whose family lost everything in a house fire in Trenton, NJ.

Quilts for Kids was asked to donate quilts, which we did, and we also contacted our neighbors across the street, Good Stuff Thrift Store, who donated bedding, clothing, books and toys.

We are always amazed at the creativity and hard work our volunteers put into each and every quilt, knowing that the quilts will be given to children they will never have a chance to meet.  Quilters are truly the most loving, generous people!

Our Hero!

An on-going supporter of Quilts for Kids, Bob Sauer of Dominion Energy, recently stopped by to give founding president, Linda Arye, another generous check.  We are so grateful to Bob, Kim, and all the Dominion Energy people, who also volunteer to deliver quilts as they travel around the country.

Cindi cut kits to give out at the next workshop at headquarters and the ladies put together some very artistic projects.

This striking quilt is really easier than it looks.  Start with a stack of 9" blocks, Make two cuts so that the center strip is 3" wide, then mix the lights and darks. Don't worry that your blocks look funny.  You will cut them down to 7-1/2". Our quilt is 4 blocks by 5 with a 3-1/2" border.
