The gift of a quilt helps a warm smile and a comforting touch stay with this California pediatric patient long after the volunteer has left.

Smiling in spite of many health issues, this 19-month-old patient is recovering from intestinal surgery at an Alabama Children's Hospital, wrapped in a quilt made especially for her by Columbiana chapter member, Doris Miller.

QFK comfort quilts are small, approximately 38" x 45", so that they do not get in the way of hospital equipment.

No matter how often hospital staff has to rearrange the NICU cribs, the new moms unerringly head toward the right newborn each time they enter the unit, immediately recognizing the quilts they've chosen for their babies.

All QFK quilts are machine pieced and machine quilted to stand up to the many wash cycles necessary in hospitals.

Volunteers may download a simple four-patch pattern from the QFK website, pictured here, or create their own designs.

Although most QFK quilt kits include four-patch patterns, a nine-patch can be downloaded from the website.

His favorite things, big trucks, encourage this young patient.

The gift of a quilt to a seriously ill newborn comforts the entire family.

Patients love choosing quilts depicting their favorite animals in their favorite colors.

Students involved with USA Taekwondo, one of QFK's newest partners, help turn tears into smiles.

Due to immunity issues, only NEW 100% cotton fabric can be used in QFK quilts.

Who's happier? This little cowboy or his dad?
